Detail
The Portuguese Hand-Wound Tourbillon Day & Night has a 18 ct Armor Gold® case, a black lacquered dial, gold-plated hands, gold appliques and a black Santoni alligator strap.
The Portugieser collection is not only about timeless design. It also demonstrates IWC Schaffhausen's extensive expertise in fine watchmaking. Over the years, IWC has introduced numerous Portugieser models with sophisticated complications. The Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon Day & Night, with a 42.4 mm case made from 18 ct Armor Gold®, combines a black lacquered dial, gold-plated hands and gold appliques. Thanks to its microstructure, Armor Gold® is significantly harder and more water-resistant than conventional red gold. The lustrous black dial with its lustrous finish lends it an eye-catching depth and creates a beautiful contrast. At 6 o'clock, the flying-minute tourbillon represents the pinnacle of fine watchmaking sophistication. Inside the tourbillon, a small cage housing the balance wheel and the pallet lever rotates once on its axis once every minute. The lever and escape wheel are made of silicon and have a special diamond coating. DiamondShell® technology reduces friction and improves the energy flow inside the movement, resulting in a long power reserve of 84 hours. The integrated tourbillon stop mechanism allows the mechanism to be stopped completely and the watch to be set to the second. Another special feature is the day & night display at 9 o'clock. It depicts the eternal cycle of day and night with a small planet rotating on its axis. As the manual winding movement has no rotor, the small planet is visible from both the front and back of the timepiece. An IWC apprentice watchmaker came up with this unique concept. The Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon Day & Night is driven by the IWC-manufactured 81925 calibre, meticulously finished with circular Côtes de Genève stripes. The gold-plated baseplate is partially skeletonised, allowing the barrel and other components to be fully exposed. It is presented on a black Santoni alligator strap with an 18 ct Armor Gold® folding clasp.
